Laughlin, Nevada / March 12-18

Riverside RV Park. Join us for fun and a little gambling on the Colorado River. The park we will be staying at is located across the street from Don Laughlin's Riverside Casino. A shuttle runs frequently from the RV park to the casino. You can walk the boardwalk along the Colorado River to most of the casinos or take a water taxi. There is a nice public city park beside the Riverside Casino, complete with a boat ramp and a fishing dock, where you can let your dog swim or just walk beside the river.

This will be a loosely scheduled outing so that everyone can enjoy the main attraction, the casinos. Laughlin still has affordable gambling, and you might even be able to find $2 blackjack. Activities will include a pet walk (people without pets are welcome). We will have a golf outing on Monday, so bring your clubs. Tuesday night we will go to the Irish dance show at the Riverside Casino.

We will go to the Colorado Belle for everyone's favorite Friday night seafood buffet. Last year we had piles of rock crab on our table. Sign up for the players card at the Riverside Casino and we can all get a hot dog and beer or soda for a nominal fee on Saturday for lunch. Sunday morning, we will go to the Riverside Casino for their champagne brunch buffet. That night we will have a happy hour, so please bring light munchies and your drink of choice. We will have an Irish potato bar Monday night. We will furnish all the fixings; you just need to bring a baked potato. Dinner on Wednesday night, St. Patrick's Day, will be a potluck with a St. Patrick's theme. Please bring a small corned beef, potatoes and cabbage, or bring your preferred main dish for yourself if you don't like corned beef. Be sure to dress in green.

By prepaying, we have negotiated special rates for the Sunday champagne brunch, just $9 inclusive (the regular price is $11.99 plus tax). We also have a group rate for tickets to the Tuesday evening Irish Show at the Riverside Casino, just $25 (rather than $35). To reserve for these events, send your check (payable to Maureen Hennessy) by Feb. 1 to Maureen Hennessy, 7987 Via Roma Drive, Fair Oaks CA 95628. Include your name, email address and the number of tickets you are purchasing for each event.

The cost for the golf outing at the Riverview Resort Golf Course in Bullhead City is $12/person plus $10 for a golf cart. If you are planning to participate, notify rally hosts Jolene Greeley or Lori Hagge by Mar. 1.

RVW National Event
River Rafting on the New River
Lansing, West Virginia / June 14-17

RVing Women, brace yourselves as you discover the wonder, thrills and challenges of West Virginia and rafting on the New River. You will be able to choose your raft trip: the Upper New River or the Lower New River.

The Lower New River raft trip through the big water canyon will take us through scores of rapids. We will also have lots of time for surfing, swimming and river antics. A professional guide travels with each 14-foot raft. The rafts seat six to seven people. From class II warm-ups to world class IV whitewater, this trip is exciting but still suitable for adventurous first timers. A shore lunch is provided.

The Upper New River raft trip takes passengers through a mild stretch of whitewater. This is a great place to get your newbie feet wet. Small rafts of one or two people is the most enjoyed way of doing this trip. The gentle and playful waves and plenty of calm waters permit time for enjoying the scenery. We will have plenty of opportunities for swimming, bird watching, picture taking, or just plain tuning out. A shore lunch is provided.

Our campground for this four day adventure will be the New River Gorge RV Park and Campground on Milroy Grose Road in Lansing. We will be close to several quaint West Virginia towns, such as Fayetteville and Summerville. Fayetteville has been named one of the top-10 coolest small towns in the U.S. by Budget Traveler Magazine.

The days when we are not rafting will be filled with a variety of activities. These may include campfires, happy hours, horseback riding, caving, rock climbing, fishing, massage, sightseeing, shopping, kayaking, biking, hiking, paintball, ATV tours and a zip line canopy tour.

The following is our tentative agenda.

Monday: Our rally will begin with a social hour and activity (around 4 p.m.) and a meal provided by your hosts.

Tuesday: We will go into historic Fayetteville for some shopping. Expect to find wonderful examples of hand-crafted items made in West Virginia at Tamarak. Our day will also include a trip to the visitor's center for views of the New River George and New Bridge, as well as viewing a short movie about the area. We will end the day with an optional buffet at Smokey's On The Gorge. This restaurant is listed as a top-10 place nationwide in Food Network's Best Of the Best.

Wednesday: This is raft day! You choose your adventure: the calm, peaceful and beautiful Upper New River experience or the more challenging whitewater rapids experience of the Lower New River. We will be using Class VI Mountain River outfitters. They are the only West Virginia outfitter awarded "Best Adventure Travel Company on Earth" by National Geographic Adventure (January 2009). After a day on the water, with lunch provided, you will love Pies & Pints for dinner. Yum! Yum!

Thursday: You get to choose your activity for this day: more rafting or hiking, biking, kayaking, paint ball, zip line canopy tour, ATV tour, horseback riding, caving, rock climbing, fishing, massage or local shopping. We will end our rally Thursday evening with dinner, awards and fun provided by your hosts Tammy and Tammy.

Rally leaders: Tammy Haley and Tammy Hanson. For information, contact call (317) 250-4222 or tamtam4@indy.net.

Camping fees: Campsites with full hookups are $22/night (only two 50 amps); electric sites are $16/night; boondocking sites are $12/night. Showers are available. This is a discounted price; no other discounts will be taken. Be sure to mention you are joining the RVing Women Rally for this quoted price. To reserve your campsite, call the New River Gorge RV Park and Campground at (304) 658-3600. You will pay (cash only) on arrival. We are holding 20 campsites until May 15, 2010. Please reserve early so we do not loose these spaces, and be sure to mention that you are with RVing Women. The campground is located off Route 19, 1.5 miles north of the New River Gorge Bridge.

Cabins: Cabins are available at Class VI Outfitters for those who do not bring an RV. The cost for a cabin with bath/shower and linens is $179 for four people. To reserve, call Carol Wagner at (866) 867-6680 ext. 48.

Activities fees: We will pay for these activities as we decide what members of our group wish to participate. The estimated fees (at 2009 prices) are:
Biking/Mountain Biking: FREE (provide your own equipment)
Bike Rentals: $35/half day
Paint Ball: $59
ATV Tour: $162
Zip Line Canopy Tour: $89

Great Lakers Chapter
Ishpeming, Michigan / July 15-19

Country Village RV Park. The theme for this rally is Anatomy of a Murder--51 Years Later. Anatomy of a Murder was filmed in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in 1959. It was adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name written by local attorney and State Supreme Court Justice John Voelker, using the pen name Robert Traver.

Voelker based the story on a trial in which he successfully defended a man accused of murder. The novel raised questions about the insanity defense, witness coaching and the prosecution of rape.

Otto Preminger, director of the film, challenged censorship guidelines in a number of ways that were startling for the time. The film was one of the first to use jazz throughout and won a Grammy for the soundtrack by Duke Ellington. The movie starred Jimmy Stewart, Eve Arden, Lee Remick, Kathryn Grant Crosby, George C. Scott, and Ben Gazzara.

The American Bar Association has included this movie in its list of the twelve best trial movies of all time.

Join us for a weekend celebrating good friends and reminiscing about this extraordinary film. If you can't arrive by Thursday, please join us whenever you can.

On Thursday. we will have a meet and greet beginning at 5 p.m. (bring your own drink and a finger-food snack to share). Afterwards, we will view the PBS documentary Anatomy '59: The Making of a Classic Motion Picture.

Plan on doing some homework before you arrive: gather some friends and watch a video of Anatomy of a Murder. The weekend's events will have so much more meaning if you have recently viewed the film.

On Friday, we will enjoy a lunch at Globe Printing, home of the historic Anatomy of a Murder Signature Wall. In 1959, the Roosevelt Supper Club occupied the space where Globe Printing now stands. The club basement was a popular hangout for the film folks, a place where they could gather to be away from adoring fans and the pressures of filming. One night, in a gesture of appreciation, cast and crew placed their autographs on the wall. Stacey Willey, owner of Globe Printing and a collector of Anatomy of a Murder memorabilia, will be our host.

After lunch, we will carpool to the Michigamme Museum to see displays about the author and the filming itself. We will have dinner at Mt. Shasta Restaurant in Michigamme. Many dancing scenes in the movie were filmed at this location.

We will carpool Saturday afternoon to Big Bay to visit the Lumberjack Tavern, the location of the actual murder, and Thunder Bay Inn, a restaurant/pub built by the Hollywood crew in 1959 because the Lumberjack Tavern was too small for filming.  Our itinerary will include Perkins Park where the alleged assault took place and where the closing scenes of the movie were filmed.

Sunday will be a free day to explore on your own. You may want to take a walking tour of downtown Ishpeming (a brochure will be available) or stop in at the Congress Lounge and Pizza, decorated with photos from the filming; the owner was a good fishing buddy of John Voelker's and is an avid fan of the movie.

Country Village RV Park is the newest, full-service RV park in the Upper Peninsula and has cable TV at most sites, WiFi, pool and hot tub. Find more information about this park at www.countryvillagervpark.com.

We have reserved a number of water/sewer/electric and water/electric campsites, as well as two mini-cabins. These will be held only until May 15. We are being given a 10% discount off the 2010 campsite rate, which has not been set at this writing. To reserve your campsite, call Country Village RV Park at (906) 486-0300, and be sure to mention that you are joining the RVW Great Lakers rally. Reservations cannot be made online. The park manager will take your credit card number but will not run it until you arrive at the park. Reservations can be cancelled with no penalty up to one week before your arrival date. After that, the penalty is one night's cost. Because of this very reasonable cancellation policy, do make a reservation if there is any chance you might be attending.

There will be so much to do at this rally, and we know you will want more time for sightseeing. Leave crowds of people and traffic jams and summer's heat and humidity behind and schedule a few extra days to explore the Upper Peninsula, or make a return visit. If you like Maine, you will love the Western UP along Lake Superior. To find things that interest you, see Hunt's Guide to Michigan's Upper Peninsula at www.hunts-upguide.com. For individual information regarding the Western UP, contact Linda Garver at lgarver@hughes.net or phone her at (906) 524-6485.

For rally information, contact Rachel Brett Harley at rachelbrett.harley@emich.edu or  (734) 945-5942. Please also RSVP to Rachel when you make your campground reservation.

The rally fee of $20 for this event (you can pay when you arrive) covers Friday's lunch, the room and equipment charge for Thursday's video showing, and a commemorative t-shirt. When you RSVP, please let Rachel know the t-shirt size you prefer.

Directions: Country Village RV Park is located at 1200 Country Lane, Ishpeming, just off Hwy 41.

The park adjoins the West Boggs Golf Course, and within a short drive are Blue Spring Caverns, French Lick Casino and Spring Mill State Park. Rally activities will include an outdoor cooking demonstration and a visit to the pioneer village at Spring Mill State Park.

We will catch up on chapter members and chapter news and get ready for the RVW National Convention in Mesa, Arizona, where our chapter will be hosting the first-timers’ luncheon.

Registration will be available in July. For information, email msmyro@aol.com.

Mid-America Chapter
Eureka Springs, Missouri / October 14-17

Wanderlust RV Park. Eureka Springs, located in Northwest Arkansas, is a unique historic Victorian town with wonderful antique shops and great country music shows. This weekend, nearby War Eagle hosts its semi-annual Arts and Crafts Show, the largest craft experience in Arkansas. The "Great Passion Play" is a half-mile away. Trolleys continuously stop at the campground to provide easy access to other attractions in and around Eureka Springs. This is a laid-back "do what you want to do" rally. We will have a clubhouse for cards and socializing. There are no rally fees.

Campground reservations should be made directly with the campground at (800) 253-7385 or (479) 253-7385. More information about this park is available at www.wanderlustrv.com.
