Great Lakers Chapter
Campers Cove RV Park and Canoe Livery
Lighthouses, shipwrecks, boats and fishing is the theme for this rally. We will have a meet and greet at 5 p.m. Thursday. Bring your own drink and a finger-food snack to share.
A limited number of spots are available for a half-day fishing charter leaving early Friday morning. Rates for 2011 were $100 to $150 per person, depending on the number of people who reserve. A deposit is required by June 15. For information and to reserve your spot, contact Mickey Said at (313) 410-2791 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Another Friday morning option is a shipwreck tour at the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary in the heart of Lake Huron's Shipwreck Alley. The tour takes two and one-half hours. Rates in 2011 were $30 per person. The tour departs from the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center.
Admission to the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center (NOOA) is free. The center is located at 500 W. Fletcher, Alpena.
Friday evening we will plan on dinner at John A. Lau Saloon and Steak House, Alpena's oldest historical saloon. You may see the resident ghost, confirmed by paranormal investigators through Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP). The ghost is mentioned in the book, Haunted Travels of Michigan.
On Saturday, we will carpool to three lighthouses on Lake Huron. Dinner will be on your own. Some of us may decide to stop at the Portage Restaurant at the Presque Isle Marina.
Campers Cove is contracting with a local caterer in 2012 to provide breakfast items for individual sale in the pavilion on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Sunday will be a free day for exploring Campers Cove. Go out into Thunder Bay River in your own kayak or canoe—or rent a canoe, kayak, pedal boat, rowboat, pontoon boat or fishing boat, available on site.
In addition to boat rentals and fishing, Campers Cove also offers Wi-Fi, indoor pool, sauna and bicycle rentals. There is a local winery nearby and several golf courses. With so much to do, you may want to arrive early or stay late. More information is available at www.camperscovecampground.com
