South Llano River State Park

1927 Park Road 73
Junction, TX 76849

Located on the southwestern edge of the Hill Country, birding is very popular at this park. There have been over 250 bird species seen over the years. You can download “Birds of South Llano River State Park: A Field Checklist” before you arrive. The park is also home to the largest turkey roost in Central Texas. You may also see armadillos and porcupines as well as various other wildlife. Fishing in the river or a small lake is available without a Texas fishing license as long as you are in the park. The park has two miles of river frontage and multiple put-in and take-out points for tubes, canoes and kayaks. You may bring your own or rent locally. There are 22.7 miles of trails with varying difficulty for hikers and bikers. Geocaching is also popular. The park is also an International Dark Skies Park, so don’t plan on placing a lot of lights around your campsite.

The park has 58 back-in sites that have 30-amp electric and water only, for $20/night. There is a shower house and a dump station. There is also a daily fee of $5 if you do not have the Texas State Park annual pass. Additional up-to-date information about the park is available at 800-792-1112.

Make your reservations at: or by calling 512-389-8900. Reservations can normally be made five months ahead, however, that may change due to government directives. So pay attention to and stay updated on park information since Texas State Parks are very popular.

Once you have made your reservation, please contact host Rita Neureuther by phone or text at 210-383-4099 or email her at
